This guide includes a selection of equipped and self-protection routes, both sport and classic, from 26 areas located in the Central System. The Central System is a mountain range over 500 km long and about thirty kilometers wide. It groups a dozen of sub-systems or mountain ranges, with altitudes ranging from 1,493 m to 2,592 m. This guide details only the most relevant areas for climbing within these ranges. The areas are grouped into four blocks and organized by provinces: Madrid, Segovia, Ávila, and Salamanca. For each area, the distance to the capital of Madrid, the total number of routes, and the range of difficulties are provided. Additionally, the altitude of the summit of the cliff, the maximum height of the wall, and the approach time are included. When self-protection equipment is needed, it is specified in the text. Otherwise, the route can be climbed with just quickdraws. Nearly all the routes have been personally climbed by the author, and all the information (including grades) is updated as of June 2008.
