Idea Montagna Escursioni ad anello nelle Dolomiti Occidentali (2a Ed.) trekking guide: The idea of loop hikes goes back a long way, both temporally and geographically speaking. It starts with a reading from many years ago that left a mark, lying dormant but ready to resurface over time. It spoke of Mount Kailash, a pyramid-shaped mountain that, at 6638 meters, stands unassumingly on the Tibetan Plateau among the many giants of the Himalayan range. This rocky mass covered in ice has an undoubtedly curious peculiarity: it is revered by all the peoples who inhabit the surrounding areas, and in the name of its sanctity, no one has ever violated its summit.
The interesting aspect, and ideological core for the birth of this book, is that Tibetans and local Indians must circumambulate it at least once in their lifetime, which amounts to a staggering 53 kilometers just on the Tibetan side, to complete the so-called “Kora.”
Setting aside the spiritual motivations and transposing everything to our “Pale Mountains,” emerges the idea of loop hikes in the Western Dolomites, namely a collection of circular itineraries that must have at least one Dolomite peak at their center.
