Versante Sud Ghiaccio delle Orobie is a winter mountaineering guide which presents numerous itineraries to be done with ice axes and crampons in the areas of the Orobie Alps, Presolana, Grigne, Concarena and Resegone.
Having remained in the shadow of the main Alpine chain for a long time, the Orobie Mountains and the Lombard Pre-Alps are experiencing a phase of rediscovery linked to the increasingly widespread practice of winter mountaineering. During the harsh Orobic winters, characterized by abundant rainfall and marked temperature variations, walls at moderate altitudes are transformed into wild glacial slopes: the ideal playground for an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts who, armed with ice axes and crampons, trace their footsteps along icy lines of every difficulty. To the many now classic canals, ideal for taking the first steps with crampons on your feet, new ice and modern mixed itineraries are added every year on almost unexplored slopes, where the imagination of mountaineers still finds full freedom of expression.
The authors are Valentino Cividini, Marco Romelli and Matteo Bertolotti who are profound connoisseurs of these areas which over the years have become their second home. This guide was born from this collaboration which has as common value the great experience in winter mountaineering and the love for these areas.
