Versante Sud Malopasso describes nearly 60 climbing sites between the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Palinuro, the Cilento National Park, and Maratea. In addition to updated reports on cliffs and historical routes, this fourth edition of Malopasso enriches itself with a section dedicated to via ferratas in the region and the Lucanian Apennines.
Â
On the Amalfi Coast, climbing often takes place in lesser-known areas, amidst unusual landscapes characterized by cave dwellings, churches, monasteries, where the colors of the mountains blend with the blue of the sea. During the winter months, seaside villages take on a special charm, and climbing becomes a natural vehicle for understanding the places, people, past, and history.
Â
Leaving behind the maze of narrow streets, the nature, and cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, the landscape changes drastically as one approaches the area of the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano, and Alburni.
Â
The walls of Cilento offer an added value. The rock where climbing takes place blends with Mediterranean scents, history, and popular traditions, and it is from the top of these walls that one can better perceive the ability of these places to evoke emotions.

Oreste Bottiglieri, born in Cava de’ Tirreni in 1972, lives on the Amalfi Coast. He is a UIAGM Mountain Guide, climbing instructor, bolter, operator, and supervisor for rope work, with professional specialization in setting up climbing sites and via ferratas. “I’ve been climbing since I was a child, and I like to think of climbing and outdoor disciplines as a way of life, an excuse to travel and deeply understand other places: from the villages of the Amalfi Coast to the 4000-meter peaks of the Alps. My passion for the mountains, for my homeland, and the work of guiding have led me over the years to discover and enhance most of the climbing sites in Campania and to open over 1000 climbing routes, including single pitches, multipitches, and classic routes. I work and live with enthusiasm, increasingly aware that I have the most beautiful job in the world in the most beautiful places in the world!”
