Versante Sud Yogarrampicata is a training guide that combines climbing with the practice of Yoga, allowing you to explore a complementary practice that can allow you to improve as a climber.
This second edition presents a notable revision and expansion, providing many other techniques and food for thought.
The links between yoga and climbing will be illustrated, exploring not only the aspects related to awareness of the body, breath and our mental dynamics, but also contextualizing them within the spiritual path of this millenary discipline. The goal is not only to show how yogic techniques can be aimed at climbing both physically and mentally, but also to demonstrate how climbing, experienced with an adequate approach, can itself become a form of yoga.
The principles of Yoga will be presented, some of the most important yogic postures (Asanas) will be described and specific sequences for climbers will be presented, explaining their usefulness in climbing. Subsequently, the different breathing techniques (Pranayama) that can be applied in climbing will be explored, and then we will analyze what the fundamentals of meditation are and how climbing can become a moving meditation. There is also a chapter dedicated to yogic relaxation techniques and an explanation of how the ethical / moral codes (Yama and Niyama) of yoga can actually find a very current application in the world of climbing.
The authors are Alberto Milani and Cristine Spiezia both climbers and Yoga teachers.
